We just watched the wonderful Louise Hay movie, You Can Heal Your Life. We’ve watched it before but after this last week or so, it was good to watch again. It has been a challenging week and letting the wisdom of the Hay House community wash over me was really great.
The movie has a narrative frame — a story about a woman who is unhappy and who, through chance, finds an affirmation card and changes her life. Cut through the narrative are interviews with Louise Hay and several Hay House authors, like Cheryl Richardson and Wayne Dyer.
It does a great job of laying out the overall themes of Hay’s teaching and giving practical advice on how to use that teaching.
Some of the interviewees offer up their stories of how Louise Hay and positive affirmations changed their lives. It is inspiring to watch and as with all Hay House productions, it looks beautiful. When we first watched it, I knew very little about Louise Hay and I think I recognized Wayne Dyer, but I did not know who Gregg Braden or Doreen Virtue or Christiane Northrup were. I just listened to everyone’s story and I heard echoes of my own words in them. In the intervening year and a half, or so, I have come to know more about almost every person featured in the movie. I find solace in their work.
If you are new to the idea that you can change your thoughts and change your world, the movie might be a good introduction. The ideas are presented in ways that are not threatening or wacky, and in fact the medical doctors in the movie ground their words in modern science.
I was glad to watch the movie again. We have been so focused, working to erase debt that we’ve moved away from Source. It was good to get back to that place. For a long time I was doing serious affirmations. Now they are, for the most part internalized, but that doesn’t mean I should stop consciously watching my thought patterns. Fear is such a huge thing and I’ve had too much fear in the last few days. I don’t like living that way and watching the movie helped reel me back in.
I credit teachers like Louise Hay and Esther and Jerry Hicks and their book Ask & It Is Given with helping me get this far on my journey. I am lucky in love and what I wanted in my life was more money. I have that now. We have worked so hard to erase credit card debt from our lives and it used to consume my thoughts. I would lie awake at night worried about how much money we owed. More than once we said to each other “If we could just pay off the credit cards…..” And here we are. The credit cards have been paid off for a long time. The student loans are almost gone and then it’s the house left to pay off. We have had so much success with positive thinking and with changing our vibrations and our thoughts. I don’t want to slip back to unconscious thinking. So taking the time to re-watch You Can Heal Your Life was important. My money fears had shifted but not disappeared, not entirely. I want so much to have the house paid off and when earlier this week it seemed like that might get derailed, I let fear into my heart in a big way.
Remembering the beginnings of our journey and how far we’ve come made me feel much better. I love and approve of myself. I am grateful for the gifts I have been given. Those affirmations will help get me back on track.
